CNC Machine Shop Near El Segundo, California

Fifteen minutes from the LAX aerospace and defense cluster, machining prototype and low-volume hardware under an AS9100D quality system with first article reporting on release. Standard production tolerances of ±.0005″ on turned diameters and ±.001″ on milled features, with critical features held to ±.0001″ where the print requires it.

5-axis trunnion with zero-point workholding vises mounted

El Segundo carries more aerospace and defense engineering per square mile than anywhere else in Southern California. Space and missile programs, satellite integrators, defense primes and the layer of engineering firms and Tier 2 suppliers that grew up around them sit within a few blocks of each other along Rosecrans, Douglas and El Segundo Boulevard, immediately south of LAX. The work that comes out of that concentration is not high-volume commodity turning. It is a first article of a bracket that has to be measured before a design review, a run of forty flight-test fittings, a fixture for a payload that ships in three weeks, and a redesign of a housing that has already been through two revisions.

That kind of program lives and dies on responsiveness, which is why physical proximity still matters in an era of uploaded models. Our shop at 149 E 162nd Street in Gardena is roughly a fifteen-minute drive from central El Segundo: north on the 405 and west on the 105, or straight across on Rosecrans when the freeways are heavy. An engineer can leave a design meeting, be on our floor before lunch, stand at the ZEISS ACCURA CMM while the first article is measured, and walk out with a signed-off part and a real delivery date rather than a status email.

We treat prototype and low-volume runs as their own discipline instead of squeezing them between production releases. One-off and low-quantity work is programmed and fixtured for the quantity actually ordered, so a run of ten does not pay for tooling a run of ten thousand needs, and it goes onto the 5-axis trunnions where a complete part comes off a single setup. Because so much El Segundo work is iterative, we hold revisions, fixtures and proven programs on file: revision B of a housing comes back as a setup change rather than a fresh quote cycle. For local accounts we run pickup and delivery on a scheduled basis rather than quoting freight on a part that would spend more time on a dock than in a truck.

Everything runs under AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 certification with material traceability back to approved mills, which matters because most El Segundo purchase orders flow down prime requirements verbatim. First article inspection is handled in our own climate-controlled lab rather than sent out, so an AS9102 report is a scheduled operation inside the job instead of a queue at a third party — typically returned with the parts, and expedited alongside the hardware when a design review date is driving the program. Outside processing such as anodize, chem film, plating, heat treat and NDT is managed through our approved vendor base with certifications returned in the shipping package.

Machining services available to El Segundo

CNC Milling

Ten vertical machining centers running prototype through production quantities, with milled features held to a standard ±.001 in and critical callouts to ±.0001 in where the print requires it.

5-Axis Machining

Five simultaneous 5-axis machining centers for impellers, contoured housings, brackets and any part where every additional setup is another chance to stack error.

Swiss Turning

Sixteen Swiss-type lathes — Citizen L12, L20 and L32, Citizen/Miyano BNX and BNA, Tsugami S205-II and B0325V-II — holding ±.0005 in on turned diameters with as-machined finishes that rarely need a secondary operation.

CNC Turning

Eight turning centers, several with Y-axis and sub-spindle, so a chucked part is turned, milled, drilled and finished on the back side without leaving the machine.

Inspection & Metrology

A climate-controlled inspection lab with a ZEISS ACCURA CMM, a Mitutoyo Crysta-Apex EX, four Keyence IM image dimension systems and a fully calibrated gage library.

Secondary Operations

Tapping, drilling, grinding, deburring, assembly and laser marking in-house, with anodize, passivation, plating, heat treat and NDT coordinated through approved sources.

Wire EDM

Wire electrical discharge machining for tight-profile forms, keyways, slots and tabs in hardened tool steel and other conductive materials that resist conventional cutting.

Sinker EDM

Sinker (ram) EDM sinks a shaped electrode into the workpiece to produce blind cavities, internal splines and forms — and to remove broken taps and drills without scrapping the part.

Common questions

El Segundo, answered plainly.

How long does it take to get from El Segundo to your shop?

Roughly fifteen minutes. From central El Segundo it is the 405 north to the 105 east and down Vermont to 162nd Street in Gardena, or Rosecrans Avenue east as a surface route when the freeways are heavy.

Do you offer pickup and delivery for El Segundo prototype runs?

Yes. For El Segundo accounts we schedule local pickup and delivery on prototype and low-volume releases rather than quoting freight, which is usually the difference between a part arriving the same afternoon and waiting on a carrier.

How fast can you turn a first article inspection report?

First article inspection runs in our own climate-controlled lab on the ZEISS ACCURA CMM and Keyence optical system, so AS9102 reporting is scheduled inside the job rather than queued at an outside service. Reports normally ship with the parts and can be expedited when a design review date is driving the schedule.
