A manifold is a solid block whose value lies entirely inside it. Long cross-drilled passages have to stay straight over depth-to-diameter ratios where a drill wants to wander, and where each degree of drift moves the intersection point with the next passage. Where two bores meet, the exit leaves a burr in a place no hand tool reaches, and a burr that breaks loose in service becomes contamination in a valve or an actuator downstream. Port threads and sealing faces — SAE straight thread, NPT, face seal — must be square and finished cleanly, because the O-ring or gasket seats against the machined surface, not against the thread. Add positional tolerance stackups between a dozen ports on multiple faces and a part that must hold pressure, and there is no room for a passage that is merely close.
We machine manifolds from solid billet with the drilling strategy planned around each passage's depth-to-diameter ratio: spot, pilot, then parabolic or coolant-fed drills with programmed peck cycles and high-pressure through-tool coolant to keep chips moving out of the hole rather than packing at the intersection. Positions are worked from a single datum scheme so stackups between faces stay controlled, with as much of the part completed in one setup as the geometry allows on the 5-axis trunnions. Intersections are deliberately deburred — mechanical, abrasive-flow or thermal, called out per print — and passages are borescoped or flow-checked, not just visually inspected. Sealing faces are finished as their own operation. Where the print requires it, parts are hydrostatically or pneumatically pressure tested and shipped with the results, plated or anodized and capped clean.

How deep can you drill manifold passages?
Passage depth is planned by depth-to-diameter ratio rather than by a single maximum: spot and pilot drilling, then coolant-fed or parabolic drills with programmed peck cycles. Long passages are checked for straightness and for a clean intersection with the crossing bore.
How do you guarantee burr-free port intersections?
Intersections are deburred as a specified operation — mechanical, abrasive flow or thermal depending on the print — then borescoped or flow-checked. Cleanliness requirements are handled before capping and packaging.
Can you pressure test finished manifolds?
Yes. Hydrostatic and pneumatic testing is performed to the print's pressure and hold time through our approved process partners, with results documented and returned in the shipping package.
